Our Mission

I want to revive the intellectual and spiritual debate on Europe… I would like to create a meeting place, a space for free discussion open to men and women of spirituality, to believers and non-believers, scientists and artists.’ – Jacques Delors, 1992

The Quo Vadis Institute (QVI) is an independent organisation concerned with assessing the impact of societal trends in Europe on the prospects for true human flourishing. The Institute aims to draw together in conversation, dialogue and debate, societal influencers and leaders in purposeful reflection on these trends. As they develop new realities and think fresh thoughts, they will be inspired to exert their influence for the good of society.

Echoing Jacques Delors’ aspirations, QVI offers a space for critical thinking where we…

  • provide a platform for the influencers and leaders of Europe to reflect deeply on matters crucial to our future,

  • celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of the voices of Europe,

  • contribute to the shaping of a sustainable European society.

We are convinced that, just as during the Renaissance era, thriving societies today require the catalyst of fresh thinking and new ideas from various professional, social, cultural and philosophical backgrounds in our diverse societies. Significantly, this is combined with a holistic approach concerned for the wellbeing of the whole person and with true human flourishing, which goes beyond mere short-term success or material prosperity. We believe that QVI’s roots in the historic Christian ethical and cultural foundations of Europe give us a clear standpoint from which to facilitate such inter and cross-disciplinary exploration.

“I believe we are on the eve of a revolution in our culture that will go beyond any expectation, and that the world is heading toward a change in respect of which the Renaissance will seem like nothing.” – René Girard, September 2006
